Philippine 06 Chronicles #2

Dear Family & friends,
Acts 13:4 "So being sent out by the Holy Spirit..."
I feel so fortunate to have a church family and pastors who are willing
to stand behind me as I follow my heart's desire in foreign missions.
For as long as I can remember as a Christian I have gravitated toward
mission service.

After about 25hrs of airports and plane flights I arrived safely in
Manila late Thursday Jan. 12th to the smiling face of my friend
Pastor Danden Sales. The sounds and smells of this bustling
metropolis immediately brought back fond memories of 4 years
ago. We stayed the night at the "Shalom House", a Christian run
inexpensive hotel in the city. The next day another airport and
the short flight to Dumagette on the south end of Negros Oriental,
about an hour's drive to my home base for the next 3 months in
Bais City.

After a day of rest Danden put me right to "work." Sunday at 6am
preaching a Salvation message on the mission's radio show. After
which I gave the message at "Maranatha Full Gospel Church",
(the home church here in Bais). After lunch, we traveled to Tanjay,
the next city to the south, and I preached the afternoon service and
then returned for the evening service in Bais.
A busy first day of ministry.

We are in the end of the rainy season here and the middle of the sugar
cane and rice harvest. The mission here owns some rice fields, the
harvest of which had to spread out under the driveway canopy to dry
and then sent to milling. Just in time for a church leadership
conference sponsored by an Australian couple. Close to about 200
Pastors from Negros, Bohol, and as far as Davao, Mindanao are in
attendance. The rice will be used in support of the ministry here and
for the students and staff at the Bible School.

On the agenda for this next week will be; ministering in a High School
and local jail along with regular church ministry. Up coming projects
will be to add a water tank to the roof of the Mission House (only
"bucket baths" here) and put a tin roof on one of the churches in the
mountains. If you wish to help with these projects use the info in
previous post and let me know via email; rrutler@juno.com

I am excited and exhilarated to be here, to see God move and to be
used in the giftings and talents with which He has blessed me.
As always I ask for your continued prayers.

God's Best & Blessings to You. Love Russ

Philippine 06 Chronicles #1

Dear Friends & Family
A belated Merry Christmas & May God grant you a truly joyous New Year.

A little over a year ago our friend, sister and my loving wife Yvonne went home to be with the Lord. Many still dearly miss her and we’ve struggled to make sense and cope with her departure. As I look back over almost 22 years of marriage, I’m reminded of the many
opportunities we had to serve our Lord in various capacities in numerous locations. One of our adventures took place nearly 4 years ago when we journeyed to the Philippines. Though we stayed for only 4 months, the land and its people have never left my heart and are never far from my thoughts. I return to the Philippines in 2006.

As some of you know I’ll be working with Danden & Shirley Sales who head up “Faith Island Missions” out of Bais City, Negros Oriental in the southern part of the Philippines. Our long time friend, former pastor and head of C.M.A.I. (Church & Ministerial Alliance International) Ira Stanley introduced us to Danden and has himself traveled nearly annually to the Islands for many years. The following is a brief description of my itinerary and needs while in the Philippines.
ITINERARY
This trip will commence with a Jan. 11 departure. On the agenda will be teaching and ministering on the large Island of Mindanao to both the older churches under Danden’s care in the Surigal area and the 10 congregations started this year in the Davao area. I am also scheduled to teach 2 courses at the Mission’s Bible School in Feb./March, participate in the annual conference and the school’s graduation in April. After which I should be returning to the States. In addition, there are home groups, prison & radio ministries and numerous local churches that I’ll be visiting.
NEEDS
I’m asking my friends and family for help, particularly in the area of prayer support. Though finances, for unexpected needs and in country expenses always arise, and are welcome (see note at bottom), I consider the prayers and intercession of the saints to be of greater value. Here are some specific things to pray for:
Safety: Transportation; planes boats buses
Traveling among the more heavily populated Muslim areas of southern Mindanao.
Inspiration: that God would anoint our words and actions as we
minister. That I would learn the language quickly.
Open Doors: that God would open new areas of ministry
Receptive Hearts: that people will be responsive to Gospel
Practical needs: That we have the means on hand to meet practical
needs such as food, clothing, educational & ministry items.

I will try to provide email updates every couple of weeks reguarding our progress. It is my sincere desire that you feel a part of this ongoing mission to the Philippines.
God’s Best & Blessings to You, Love Russ

Preparing to head out!

Hi Everyone,
I'm making final preparations before heading out on my missionary journey to the Phil
ippines to work with Pastor Danden Sales at Faith Island Missions! I leave on Jan 11 from Jacksonville FL. I'll arrive Manila on Jan 12. I will have ridden on four planes by the time I finally arrive! Here's an overview map of the Philippines - I covet your prayers as I embark on this new journey in my life trusting that my footsteps are being ordered by the Lord.

For His Glory!
Russ
